2006-2026
Though the road is long and the road is winding
And the view of your destination you are not finding,
You’ve started this journey and there’s no turning back,
Though the devil may howl and with doubts attack
You can rest in His goodness, rest in His grace,
Rest in Him helping you run out this race.
Because in the twilight when you can’t see the road
And in bearing the load you feel the wind and the cold,
His word is a lamp that will brighten your path,
When the door we dreamed open had a quick aftermath.
A dream I had broken, I asked, “What? Is it dead?”
But there’s a picture I missed, from another’s view instead.
The unfolding of links that links your heart to mine,
In a way that I didn’t think could be divine.
Might this brokenness be shared, as the bread that was passed?
And the path overlooked and the turn that was passed,
Might He detour us to, yet we can’t see that far?
So He gives us a hope and He raises the bar.
I was hoping in patience; questions there, but when I asked,
The answer came slowly so the knowledge would last,
Because the one I’d pass by is the one He’d point out,
To invite to the banquet, so He changes the route.
People in the way were put there for me to love;
Does my kindness within fit my brother like a glove?
I mustn’t for a minute take you for granted.
Your needs have place too, I should rightly understand it.
Will I learn to follow Him who gave birth and made new,
As I deny self, bear the cross, serve my neighbor, follow truth?
Now came grace to learn why a dream may diminish and die,
To accept the Potter’s hand and be molded as I sigh…
Through brokenness, and pain, and waiting to be repaired,
Lonely, and watching, though not in despair.
Knowing He does good things with all of my weakness,
I must trust Him and lean on Him despite all my eagerness.
Though it seems like the dream I had was the best for me
Could it simply be something of which the Lord was pleased
That the ashes of that dream began blowing in the wind?
If I always got everything I wanted-that might tempt me to sin!
But as the Lord moved in my life to rearrange my goals
And as I followed Him wherever He leads, I soon came to know,
His way is better and the fruit He causes to grow,
Is going to come as I keep my estimation of myself low
And be humble in my view and as a gardener sows,
Planning to walk with Him till I grow gray-haired and old
And follow His lead in every pursuit
And let Him operate as Lord, and surrender the loot,
Of every conquest that I may seem to win,
Or I may have to repeat this lesson again.
But His goal in me is that the image of Christ shine out
From within my heart till it’s unmistakable to anyone who is without
The love of Christ, the Savior, till the lost become found,
And the people see the glory of God all around.
So, for this I bring to Him every wayward ambition
Till my pursuit of Christlikeness becomes my mission.
And my heart renewed by Him can dream again,
From a place of purity and my highest happiness is simply knowing Him.
And from my highest happiness in simply knowing Him,
moving forward to loving Him, serving Him, and agreeing with Him,
that He can make something beautiful out of my dreams,
once they are broken, and no longer get the best of me.
If you love anything more than Christ you will find,
It has too much of your heart and will get you in a bind,
So the mercy of God is He will break the dream from you,
But keep his plan for you, for the pursuit of a love that’s true.
Love the Lord with all your heart, and soul, and mind and strength,
And love your neighbor as yourself, and give God thanks,
Trust God with all your heart, for He never makes an error,
And he will never disappoint you who more than 10,000 others is yet fairer.
